my friend sent this to me today…

Left 2 days ago on a 4 day run but mission went to shit right out of the gate. landmine killed 3 and wounded 2 Afgan Police including the commander as the team was coming out of a village. My guys were still behind a wall when it went off so they were fine. They were lucky they were talking to someone for an extra 30 seconds or well it would be a real bad day. It was horrible saw bodies and pieces flying wish I had been looking the other way. Helos came and evacted the wounded then we headed back and a truck hit a mine and then we took fire from the village we were rolling thought and then rpg fire started coming in but no hits I think. Tracer rounds flying everywhere and as we were rolling though the village, I run the 240B , I saw all the women and children running into a mosque and looked right at 2 of the Taliban and made eye contact with the one as he ran into a house and they put kids in the doorway so I wouldn’t shoot in as they were shooting out. Then as we were manuvering to counter the attack they got one of the new cougar mraps stuck in a field. It still could shoot so the Talib took off to the other side of the village and we sat in the middle of the road guarding the gun truck. Then they sent us back throught the village to engage on the other side. When we got there the truck that hit the mine was engulfed and well it wasn’t good. We set up and the Afghan Police shot rockets at the tree line where the talib had run to. Then we went back out to the gun truck and sat in the dark waiting for a wrecker and back-up to come. The Afghan Police didn’t like sitting there so they took their 14 trucks and left our 4 trucks sitting in the dark to wait for help. About 100 meters outside of the village where we had just been attacked. So we sat there in the dark with night vision goggles on, me up in the turret, praying the Taliban didn’t come back and well that they didn’t come back. Back-up finally showed up about 2 hours later. So we got the truck out and went back to the Afghan Ploice post where we were staying. Then left first thing this morning and came back to the big base. This is how this war is running. It took all we had not to shoot at them as they left us sitting there. Got a CAB for this one I guess, already have 1 or 2 or 3 but what the hell. They filed paperwork anyway. I told em I already have 1 but they want to push it so what ya gonna do. Take care . Happy vets day too.

I never thought I would see the day that America choses a man with connections to anti-American extremists and terrorists over a decorated war hero.

So as i was reading the book Ghost Wars (found here) i was reading once again about the Bojinka plot.  Which made me think of all the critics of Bush and how they dont feel safer after September 11th. Well…here happens to be a list of some of the failed terrorist plots against this country since September 11th.

The following is a list of known terror plots thwarted by the U.S. government since Sept. 11, 2001.

• June 2003, Virginia Jihad Network: Eleven men from Alexandria, Va., trained for jihad against American soldiers, convicted of violating the Neutrality Act, conspiracy.

• August 2004, Dhiren Barot: Indian-born leader of terror cell plotted bombings on financial centers (see additional images).

• August 2004, James Elshafay and Shahawar Matin Siraj: Sought to plant bomb at New York’s Penn Station during the Republican National Convention.

• August 2004, Yassin Aref and Mohammed Hossain: Plotted to assassinate a Pakistani diplomat on American soil.

• June 2005, Father and son Umer Hayat and Hamid Hayat: Son convicted of attending terrorist training camp in Pakistan; father convicted of customs violation.

• August 2005, Kevin James, Levar Haley Washington, Gregory Vernon Patterson and Hammad Riaz Samana: Los Angeles homegrown terrorists who plotted to attack National Guard, LAX, two synagogues and Israeli consulate.

• December 2005, Michael Reynolds: Plotted to blow up natural gas refinery in Wyoming, the Transcontinental Pipeline, and a refinery in New Jersey. Reynolds was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

• February 2006, Mohammad Zaki Amawi, Marwan Othman El-Hindi and Zand Wassim Mazloum: Accused of providing material support to terrorists, making bombs for use in Iraq.

• April 2006, Syed Haris Ahmed and Ehsanul Islam Sadequee: Cased and videotaped the Capitol and World Bank for a terrorist organization.

• June 2006, Narseal Batiste, Patrick Abraham, Stanley Grant Phanor, Naudimar Herrera, Burson Augustin, Lyglenson Lemorin, and Rotschild Augstine: Accused of plotting to blow up the Sears Tower.

• July 2006, Assem Hammoud: Accused of plotting to bomb New York City train tunnels.

• August 2006, Liquid Explosives Plot: Thwarted plot to explode ten airliners over the United States.

• March 2007, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: Mastermind of Sept. 11 and author of numerous plots confessed in court in March 2007 to planning to destroy skyscrapers in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Mohammedalso plotted to assassinate Pope John Paul II and former President Bill Clinton.

• May 2007, Fort Dix Plot: Six men accused of plotting to attack Fort Dix Army base in New Jersey. The plan included attacking and killing soldiers using assault rifles and grenades.

• June 2007, JFK Plot: Four men are accused of plotting to blow up fuel arteries that run through residential neighborhoods at JFK Airport in New York.

• September 2007, German authorities disrupt a terrorist cell that was planning attacks on military installations and facilities used by Americans in Germany. The Germans arrested three suspected members of the Islamic Jihad Union, a group that has links to Al Qaeda and supports Al Qaeda’s global jihadist agenda.

Ya know, after watching the debate the other night and becoming enraged at the words coming out of Obama’s mouth i realized something. To all the people who say “bring the troops home”….your seem to forget something.

You dont realize that we WANT to be there. We signed up to go.  If we really did not want to go, soliders wouldnt sign up and re-enlist and like myself, take a nearly 40k pay cut to go.  We go because we know you wont and we dont want you to.

We go so you dont have to and its because we love you.

So please think the next time you say “bring them home” or something similiar, it just hurts our morale.

We want to be there, so they wont be here.

So i got here to Hawaii last night…and now i will go through a week of inprocessing which consists, so far, of formation at 0900, then doing whatever i want all day. i will probably have to do some paperwork next week though.

Most of the guys here are 11 Bravo’s (infrantrymen) who just graduated from basic training so now i am surrounded by children again.  I do not know if i will be in the same company as them but im going to try and get an apartment when i get to my company depending on when i deploy.
